One of the most recognized certifications in the IT industry, MCSE or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer accreditation is highly sought. As a result, there are a number of companies that offer a variety of different MCSE training options. MCSE certification requires the successful completion of seven exams ranging in areas from networking to system administration to a number of elective areas.

The test themselves are adaptive, meaning if you are deficient in a particular area, the test will adapt to ensure additional questions are asked in this area. Given the complexity and nature of the exam process, the trick is to determine what approach best suits you in preparation.

Self-study is a popular approach in MCSE training if for no other reason it is significantly cheaper to buy training materials and studying in one’s own residence or workplace as apposed to paying for weeks of offsite training or a subscription to a web service to prepare. While cost is the biggest pro, this option puts the entire onus of research on you, the student as opposed to having approved and experienced mentors available to answer questions. Also, instructors typically have the very credential you are seeking and can give firsthand tips and tricks to successfully passing the MCSE exams.

Web-based training services obviously is an appeal to the crowd who is most likely to seek MCSE training. Being able to take training anytime and anywhere that has an internet connection is certainly a plus. Training via the web also has the benefit of introducing interactive training elements, such as Windows Server 2008 simulators and quizzes. Be careful, if you are the type that best learns through personal interaction, very few of these web options employ people in real-time.

The traditional delivery method for MCSE training is the classroom, instructor-led approach. Typically you will have a classroom set up with PCs and an instructor who will take you through both lecture and hands on lab work which will reinforce the concepts to be covered for the exam you are preparing to take. This tends to be the most popular approach as it combines the best of self-study and web-based training and also adds the face time with a real person. The only caveat is this approach by far is the most expensive. Remember there are 7 tests to pass for your MCSE certification.

MCSE Certification is a great way to begin because once certified it becomes only a matter one more exam to upgrade to MCTS.

Cisco Certified Network Associate training and certification courses and exams are available in several formats. All exams and training course are intended to upgrade IT professional skills and can, in some instances, be provided on site by training companies. Cisco provides very specific study materials for each course and the exams are certification level specific. There are several companies that offer both in class and online training courses to enable IT personnel to pass the exam to become CCNA certified. CCNA training can be completed via online study or at a “boot camp”, which is available through select companies and provides hands on, fast-paced training to become CCNA certified.

Generally, CCNA training courses teach students how to install, configure, operate and troubleshoot routed and switched Cisco networks. Busy IT professionals may find the online courses a better option as they allow self-paced learning via online classes and CD-ROMs. The course curriculum will general include the identification and elimination of security threats, introduction to wireless networks and terminology and the implementation and use of several operating protocols specific to Cisco systems.

Aside from the training, the certification is provided by Cisco to verify the ability to install, configure, operate and troubleshoot routed and switched networks. To ensure the continuing education of the CCNA certified professionals, certifications are valid for three years. At the end of the certification, each IT professional must re-certify by taking the current CCNA certification exam, or pass one of several comparable job-specific exams offered by Cisco.

There are additional levels of certifications, including CCNA Security, CCNA Voice and CCNA Wireless certifications. CCNA Security associates work with the integrity of communications systems; installing and monitoring network devices to maintain their security from outside threats. CCNA Voice associates are typically employed as voice technologies administrator, voice engineer and voice manager; working with VoIP protocols and handsets and equipment setup. Cisco has announced two options for training and certification in CCNA Voice, enterprise and commercial.

There are specific differences between the two formats. CCNA Voice enterprises is intended for associates expecting to pass the CUCM 6.0 assessment, the CVOICE 642-436. Enterprise associates work with government, large companies and colleges. CCNA Voice commercial is geared toward passing the CUCM 4.1 assessment, the IIUC 640-460. The commercial system is utilized by smaller companies (less than 2000 employees), retail establishments and some elementary and secondary school districts. CCNA Wireless associates configure, implement and maintain wireless LANs used specifically with Cisco equipment. All three of the specific certification courses require the technology professional to have a current CCNA certification.

CCNA certification is a valuable knowledge set for IT professionals working with business communications. Obtaining the certification, even the basic certification without the Security, Voice or Wireless specific certifications, can make the job market easier to navigate. In today’s economy, a system specific certification can also look good on an annual performance review. It is well worth the investigation to enroll in CCNA training and obtain CCNA certification.

Microsoft Training Of Kind Is Definitely An Asset

2009 July 28

I have always had in an interest in computers and computer technology. This has helped me in every job I have ever had.

When I first worked as an administrative assistant for a company, I know the reason they hired me was because I had a lot of experience with Microsoft products. All of my experience and knowledge was gained hands-on and by trial and error. They quickly learned that I could troubleshoot network systems and they certainly used me for that many times.

Now, years later I wish I would have taken some time to complete some serious Microsoft Training, especially the MCSE Training. I was recently laid off from my job and am now back in the job market. My timing couldn’t have been worse. Unemployment is at an all-time high and I am close to being classified as a senior. Not a good situation at all. I believe that if I had some official Microsoft Training it would be a definite asset. Even if you have the knowledge and the experience, certification seems to be a defining point for many companies.

I spent some time last week redoing my resume and have begun the arduous process of applying for everything I see. I applied for a job that looked very interesting and I felt like my experience with Microsoft products was sufficient. However, the company called me and asked if I had taken any Microsoft Training and I had to tell them no. He politely thanked me for applying and suggested that I complete the MCSE Training and reapply the next time they post an opening. Well, that made me sad, but it also motivated me.

This morning I got up and began searching for Microsoft Training, specifically MCSE Training and found that not only does Microsoft offer this training but so do other companies. All of them listed the same basic requirements for the MCSE Training that included one to two years of experience in designing, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network systems. While I’ve never actually been hired as an IT Specialist, I have certainly been used as one by my employers. The requirements make me a bit nervous though so I think I will see what other Microsoft Training is available to get me ready for the MCSE Training.

If I were to do things all over again in life, I would have certainly gotten every Microsoft certification that I could get.
